Proudly sponsored by Pool Robotics Perth, the Wheatbelt Regional Seminar held at the Toodyay Recreation Centre on the 8th October reached full capacity, with 30 delegates and four trade exhibitors in attendance.
The event was led by LIWA Aquatics Life Member Chris Blankley, who facilitated an engaging workshop with participants focused on the key issues and challenges currently faced by regional aquatic and recreation professionals.
A highlight of the program was the De-escalation of Aggression and Conflict Workshop delivered by Dr Christian Mauri, sociologist and trainer. The session was timed to coincide with the opening of seasonal aquatic centres, providing staff with valuable tools and strategies for managing challenging behaviours in leisure environments.
Leanne Coverley-Brandis, RLSWA presented an informative session on Pool Supervision Plans, followed by LIWA Executive Officer Leith Fradd, who provided an update on the data collection projects being delivered in partnership with Royal Life Saving WA. These projects aim to share insights on centre fees and charges, operational performance, and policy development to support better industry benchmarking and planning.
The day concluded with several special acknowledgements, including the presentation of the LIWA Aquatics Life Membership Award to John Simmonds, and 20 Years of Service Awards to Adele Caporn and Rachael Bairstow.
Delegates also enjoyed a technical tour of the Toodyay facility, hosted by Clint Cheney, rounding out an inspiring and productive day of professional development and regional connection. Our sincere appreciation to the Shire of Toodyay for providing the beautiful venue and assistance in opening the aquatic centre for pool lifeguard qualification the following day and to all the presenters, delegates and suppliers.
