Smith Robertson Award

This award is LIWA Aquatics highest recognition provided by the industry. It acknowledges the outstanding achievement and contribution made by an individual over their career to the Aquatic Recreation Industry. This contribution can be made in either a paid or voluntary capacity.

Fred Smith and John Robertson were instrumental in the creation and early development of the institute when it first become a industry peak body in 1969. Both are Life Members and have been involved in the institute in some capacity for over 50 years.  John Robertson sadly passed in 2023 and we are honoured to continue his legacy to our industry through this award.

The Smith -Robertson Award will be judged by a selection panel consisting of LIWA Aquatics Board, Members, Life Members and may also consist of Industry Key Stakeholders or invited guests.

Essential Criteria:

  • Current member or employee of current business member of LIWA Aquatics.
  • Has made a considerable impact over an extended period of time by promoting, contributing, and supporting the aquatic recreation industry.

Industry Service Awards 

The Industry Service Awards recognise individuals for their long-standing service and commitment to the aquatic and leisure industry, acknowledging milestone achievements of 10, 20, 30 or 40 years of service.

Eligibility is determined based on the year the individual first attained their Pool Manager (ATO) qualification, with awards presented in the corresponding anniversary year.

To be eligible, recipients must:

  • Have maintained LIWA membership for the full duration of the qualifying period

  • Have completed consecutive or cumulative active years of employment within the industry

  • Continue to demonstrate commitment to professional practice within the aquatic and leisure sector

These awards celebrate dedication, longevity, and the valuable contribution of individuals whose careers have helped strengthen and sustain the industry over time.
