AQUATIC TECHNICAL OPERATOR (ATO) ACCREDITATION

Since 2008 LIWA Aquatics has been issuing accreditations on behalf of the Department of Health WA.  The Code of Practice for the design, construction, operation, management & maintenance of aquatic facilities outlines that currency of practice is to be demonstrated by maintaining accreditation with the Leisure Institute of Western Australia (Aquatics) or an approved equivalent. The Accreditation Certificate is to remain at the Aquatic Facility and be made available when requested by an Environmental Health Officer.

The accreditation process requires individuals to meet the following criteria:

  1.  Evidence of successful completion of a recognised Pool Operators’ Training Course (ATO Course).
  2.  Details of current and past employment in the aquatic industry.
  3.  A current Provide First Aid Certificate or equivalent.
  4.  A current Pool Lifeguard Award (Licence) or equivalent.
  5.  Evidence of attendance at two professional development seminars over the three years.

Australian Standard AS2927 require those operating in a chlorine gas facility to also have the following:

  1. Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Certificate renewed annually
  2. Chlorine Gas Training Certificate renewed every 3 years or every 18 months if not active.

All qualifications and membership/accreditation fees must be up to date for currency.  Failure to have current qualifications and membership/accreditation fees revokes your accreditation.  You will not be able to work as a ATO until such time as all qualifications and memberships are current.
