De-escalating Conflict and Aggression Workshop:
Prevent violence and defuse volatile situations in Aquatic & Recreation Centres

Conflict is an inevitable part of working with people, and at some point, every aquatic and recreation professional will encounter an agitated or aggressive customer. The way we respond in those moments can be the difference between a smooth resolution and a serious incident.
To support the industry, LIWA has engaged Dr Christian Mauri – a highly regarded presenter from the 2025 Aquatic Recreation Conference – to deliver a practical, full-day workshop designed for lifeguards, aquatic technical operators, and aquatic and recreation staff. Participants will gain the tools and techniques to confidently and safely manage threatening, aggressive, or inappropriate behaviour.

Causes and triggers of aggression
Preventing violence before it starts
Responding to emergencies
Stages of escalation
Self-awareness and calming strategies
The role of body language
Practical defusing skills
