A Fresh Summer Ahead at Exmouth Pool
After around three months of closure, Exmouth’s Paltridge Memorial Swimming Pool has reopened following an extensive refurbishment, giving locals and visitors a refreshed place to swim, learn and cool off as summer approaches.
The work reached well beyond the pool surfaces. Contractor Protective Waterproofing resurfaced and repainted the pools and repaired concrete spalling, while the plant room was also repainted. The team replaced tiles, fitted new lids to the starting blocks, refurbished the diving board and coated the non-slip surfaces. A new safety gate, additional signage and a replacement basketball hoop and backboard were also installed.
There was plenty to do across the wider facility, too. Dry assets were repainted, palm trees trimmed and gardens tidied, and new outdoor furniture has been welcomed by patrons. Together, these improvements have given the pool a fresh look and helped create a more inviting setting for the community.
One of the most special additions came from local children. The pool invited them to submit designs for the bottom of the toddler pool, then selected two entries for local artist Sadie James to paint. It’s a colourful reminder that the pool belongs to the community and that local people can help shape the places they enjoy.
Getting the facility ready to reopen was a major task in itself. More than 1.1 million litres of water had to be added, followed by balancing the water chemistry, cleaning, equipment checks and water-quality testing to ensure the pool was safe and ready for public use.
Pool Manager Matt Ikin said the team was proud of the transformation and the effort behind it. “It’s been a big team effort, and seeing everything come together has been rewarding,” he said, recognising the hard work of the Pool and Depot teams in completing the project.
With the pool open again, the team is looking forward to a busy season of swimming lessons, squad training and families enjoying the facilities. Whether people are there to build their swimming skills, keep active or spend time together, Exmouth’s refreshed pool is ready to welcome them back.
