Published Mon 09 Mar 2026

The Leisure Institute of Western Australia (LIWA) is pleased to announce a new strategic partnership with AUSactive for the 2026 WA Aquatic & Recreation Conference, strengthening collaboration between the aquatic, recreation, health and fitness sectors.

The partnership was formally acknowledged during a meeting between AUSactive CEO Ken Griffin and LIWA Executive Officer Leith Fradd, alongside Peter Leaversuch in Scarborough, WA. The announcement marks an important step in expanding the scope of the state’s leading aquatic and recreation industry event.

As part of the partnership, AUSactive will serve as the Official Health & Fitness Stream Partner, working with LIWA to deliver a dedicated Health & Fitness Stream within the 2026 conference program.

The co-designed stream will bring together industry leaders, practitioners and subject matter experts to explore emerging trends, workforce development, case studies and the evolving role of the health and fitness sector in supporting active communities. By integrating health and fitness perspectives into the broader program, the conference will provide delegates with deeper insights into how different sectors of the industry can collaborate to improve community wellbeing.

LIWA Executive Officer Leith Fradd said the partnership represents an important step in strengthening cross-sector collaboration across the industry.

“There is clear alignment between LIWA and AUSactive in promoting safe, active, healthy and connected communities. By working together, we can enhance the depth and diversity of learning opportunities available to industry professionals understanding across aquatics, recreation and fitness.”

AUSactive CEO Ken Griffin also welcomed the opportunity to engage more closely with Western Australia’s aquatic and recreation sector.

“This partnership provides a valuable platform to highlight the role of the exercise and active health sector in improving community health and wellbeing. We look forward to playing a strong role that supports WA professionals in their professional development, increases industry standards and encourages stronger integration across both sectors.”

The Health & Fitness Stream will be delivered as a dedicated one-day program within the broader two-day conference, with topics and presenters jointly developed by LIWA and AUSactive to ensure alignment with both organisations’ strategic priorities. Relevant sessions will also be recognised for AUSactive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points, supporting ongoing learning and professional development for fitness industry professionals.

The 2026 WA Aquatic & Recreation Conference will take place on 26–27 August 2026 at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, bringing together industry leaders, facility operators, planners, swim school operators, health and fitness professionals, policymakers and service providers from across Western Australia. The event is widely regarded as the state’s premier gathering for the aquatic and recreation sector, supporting collaboration, innovation and knowledge sharing across the industry.

More than 600 delegates are expected to attend, reflecting the growing importance of cross-sector collaboration in shaping the future of aquatic, recreation and health-focused services across the state.

Together, LIWA and AUSactive look forward to delivering a conference program that strengthens connections across the industry and supports the development of healthier, more active communities throughout Western Australia.
