Cockburn ARC wins 2026 Aquatic Facility Safety Award

Published Thu 08 Oct 2026

Creating a safe aquatic facility takes more than having the right procedures on paper. It requires a culture where safety is understood, shared and continually improved.

Cockburn ARC, City of Cockburn, has been named the 2026 Aquatic Facility Safety Award winner at the WA Aquatic & Recreation Industry Awards, proudly sponsored by Monotek. The award recognises facilities demonstrating an outstanding commitment to aquatic health and safety through strong leadership, workforce engagement, training and robust safety systems.

Cockburn ARC’s recognition follows a significant period of review and improvement across the facility’s safety practices.

Following an independent safety review, the team identified opportunities for improvement and acted quickly to address them. In just eight weeks, Cockburn ARC increased its Royal Life Saving WA and LGIS Pool Safety Assessment score from 92.37% to an outstanding 99.93%.

Behind that result is a broader commitment to embedding safety throughout the facility. Strong leadership, staff engagement and continuous improvement have helped create a culture where safety is part of everyday operations rather than simply an audit requirement.

The result demonstrates the value of actively reviewing systems, responding to identified risks and involving staff in creating safer environments for colleagues, patrons and the wider community.

For a large and complex aquatic and recreation facility, achieving a result of this standard is a significant accomplishment and sets a strong benchmark for the wider industry.

LIWA Aquatics congratulates Cockburn ARC and the City of Cockburn on receiving the 2026 Aquatic Facility Safety Award and thanks Monotek for supporting the recognition of safety excellence across WA’s aquatic industry.
