Creating community impact often starts with removing the barriers that prevent people from taking part.

Swan Active, City of Swan, has been named the inaugural winner of the 2026 Peter Hobson Community Impact Award, proudly sponsored by Fluidra, for its Access All Areas program.

Introduced this year, the award honours the late Peter Hobson and his lasting contribution to WA’s aquatic and recreation industry. It recognises programs that improve access and inclusion, strengthen community connections and create meaningful outcomes for the people they serve.

Access All Areas was developed to help City of Swan residents experiencing disadvantage participate in recreation, health, cultural and social activities they may otherwise be unable to access.

Working with trusted community service providers, the program supports people experiencing barriers including financial hardship, disability, geographic isolation, family violence, homelessness and limited social support. Eligible residents can receive up to $500 each financial year towards activities that support their health, wellbeing and connection with the community.

The program has continued to grow in response to community need. In 2025–26, more than $38,000 had supported 143 people, with approximately $33,000 accessed through Swan Active. Support has also extended to school swimming lessons for schools with high numbers of students from lower socio-economic or Indigenous backgrounds.

Importantly, Access All Areas has been designed to make seeking support straightforward, working through organisations that already understand their communities and the people who would benefit most.

By reducing financial and practical barriers to participation, Swan Active is helping more people experience the physical, social and wellbeing benefits that aquatic and recreation facilities can provide.

It is a fitting first recipient for an award created to continue Peter Hobson’s legacy of creating opportunities and making a positive difference through the aquatic and recreation industry.
