LIWA Aquatics held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 22 October 2024, welcoming members both in person and online to reflect on a year marked by transition, challenge, and progress.
President Dan Barber described 2024–25 as “one of transition, challenge, and growth” for the organisation, noting that despite operating under an Acting Executive Officer, “our Board, staff, and members showed remarkable resilience, ensuring the Institute stayed focused on its mission.”
Among the key achievements were a successful Annual Conference, continued advocacy on behalf of the aquatic industry, and steady progress in leadership development and professional mentoring. While acknowledging financial challenges—with both the conference and regional seminars recording losses—Barber highlighted that LIWA’s strong reserves ensured stability. Adjustments to amortise membership revenue were also implemented to better align income across financial years, with early indicators for 2025–26 already showing a positive turnaround.
The meeting also marked several important leadership transitions. Long-serving Executive Officer Steve Good was farewelled with appreciation for his years of dedicated service, and Leith Fradd was formally appointed as Executive Officer, bringing strong industry experience and a commitment to continuing LIWA’s mission. Sarahjayne Westberg was recognised for 11 years of exceptional contribution to the LIWA Board, Sian Edwards was welcomed as a new Board member, and Travis Doye was thanked for his capable leadership as Acting Executive Officer during the period of change.
Looking ahead, Barber reaffirmed LIWA Aquatics’ commitment to strengthening partnerships, supporting leadership, and deepening member engagement across Western Australia’s aquatic and recreation sector.
