LIWA Aquatics proudly kicked off its 2025 Technical Tour series at the City of Stirling’s recently redeveloped Inglewood Pool, spotlighting one of the most innovative safety advancements in aquatic supervision—Lynxight, an AI-powered drowning detection system.
The session brought together 17 aquatic industry professionals from across Western Australia, including representatives from metropolitan, Pilbara, and South West facilities. Attendees were given a comprehensive look into the practical applications of AI technology in aquatic environments, with a live, real-time demonstration of Lynxight in action on the pool deck.
Duncan Hutton, Recreation & Leisure Operations Coordinator for the City of Stirling, led a detailed discussion on the journey to implementation—from research and business case development to planning, installation, and operation. His insights provided a clear roadmap for other local governments considering similar safety upgrades.
Adding to the depth of the session, Dan Mulvey, General Manager of Lynxight, delivered an educational presentation on the system’s capabilities and how it integrates into existing operations. The combined expertise of both speakers gave attendees a robust understanding of how AI can enhance—not replace—human supervision in aquatic environments.
“This system is not designed to take the place of human interaction and supervision,” said Hutton. “Rather, it’s intended to add significant value to the awareness and performance of staff, particularly when a patron experiences difficulty in the water.”
The event was hosted by LIWA Aquatics where Travis Doye, praised both the turnout and the technology on display.
“We were so excited to host this event at the recently redeveloped Inglewood Pool and congratulate the City of Stirling for its trailblazing approach to community safety through the installation of AI-powered drowning detection systems,” Doye said. “It was great to welcome 17 aquatic industry colleagues from all corners of the state to learn more about this system and to participate in the first LIWA Aquatics tech tour for the year. We look forward to many more of these sessions in the near future.”
As the use of technology in aquatic safety continues to evolve, initiatives like the LIWA Aquatics Tech Tour serve an important role in connecting industry professionals with practical, life-saving innovations. With Lynxight making waves in the WA market, the future of aquatic safety is clearly headed in a smarter, more responsive direction.
