Meet Erin Vis – Building a More Waterwise Future for WA Aquatic Centres

For the past 19 years, Erin Vis has been helping Western Australians make the most of one of our most precious resources – water. As Water Corporation's Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program Coordinator, she's become a familiar face to many aquatic facility operators across the state, working alongside them to improve water efficiency while supporting the vital role they play in their communities.

Erin's passion for the industry is evident from the moment you meet her.

"I genuinely enjoy connecting with aquatic facilities across WA, learning about each centre and the incredible teams behind them," she says. "Every facility is different, and it's rewarding being able to support people with practical solutions that work for their unique circumstances."

Since joining Water Corporation in 2007, Erin has worked across a range of roles, but says being part of the Waterwise Programs team has been the highlight of her career.

"I've been fortunate to be involved since the industry programs were first established," she explains. "It's been wonderful to see the Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program grow over the years and to build genuine relationships with so many people across the industry, and achieve water efficiency outcomes."

“I'm also incredibly grateful to all the aquatic facilities and staff who have participated in the program over the years. Their willingness to embrace water efficiency initiatives, share knowledge and continually look for ways to improve has been fundamental to the program's success. Many facilities have shown a long-term commitment to the waterwise journey, and we sincerely appreciate the great work they do every day for their communities and the environment."

She also acknowledges the important role LIWA played in establishing the program.

"A special shout out to Tony Head and Jeff Fondacaro, our original contacts at LIWA, who helped lay the foundation for what has become such a successful partnership."

Supporting Facilities Across Western Australia

As Program Coordinator, Erin oversees both the Waterwise Buildings and Waterwise Aquatic Centre Programs, helping facilities improve water efficiency and sustainability through practical, achievable initiatives.

What she enjoys most is visiting centres and learning how they operate.

"Regional facilities, in particular, continue to amaze me. Often one person is managing operations, supervising staff, overseeing maintenance and handling administration all at once. Their commitment to their communities is admirable."

Her goal is to ensure the Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program delivers genuine value by helping centres reduce water consumption, lower operating costs and sharing knowledge to make improvement projects more achievable.

"I want facilities to see the Waterwise Program as more than just a recognition program," Erin says. "I want it to be a trusted partnership that provides practical guidance, celebrates achievements and supports long-term sustainability."

One Simple Tip That Can Save Thousands of Litres

"You can't manage what you don't measure."

Erin recommends installing a data logger alongside a facility's main water meter, allowing operators to monitor water use in real time and quickly identify leaks, faulty equipment or operational issues before they become costly problems. If a data logger isn't available, regular manual meter readings can also provide valuable insights into water use trends. As an added benefit, Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program participants who demonstrate a genuine commitment to improving water efficiency may be eligible to apply for a data logger through the program.

Life Beyond Work

Away from the office, Erin's world revolves around family. She and her husband Adrian have two daughters, Lily and Zara, and enjoy spending time exploring Western Australia. Their latest family adventure saw them travel through northern WA in their caravan, visiting Karijini National Park and Mundabullangana Cattle Station near Port Hedland. Highlights included helping muster cattle, learning about life on a working station and taking a helicopter flight over the spectacular Pilbara landscape.

Closer to home, weekends are often spent poolside supporting her daughters' swimming, cheering from the sidelines at netball or enjoying family walks with their border collie Daisy.
